Reality Junkies has proven that by Volume 3, a series can either grow stale or find its groove. Happily, Mommy Swap 3 swerves toward the latter—a mature (in every sense) entry in a delightfully ridiculous genre. Disclaimer: This article is for informational and critical analysis purposes only. Two stressed mothers—let’s call them Karen (a tightly-wound suburban perfectionist) and Diana (a free-spirited, bohemian type)—decide to participate in a “mommy swap” weekend. The catalyst is often a marriage counselor or a mutual friend who suggests a change of scenery will reinvigorate their respective husbands.
Upon entering each other’s homes, each “mommy” is immediately confronted with the other’s domestic life. Karen finds Diana’s husband, a rugged contractor, fixing a sink shirtless. Diana finds Karen’s husband, a clean-cut finance executive, working from home in a tailored vest. The dialogue is a mix of complaint (“Your wife never makes dinner”) and flirtation (“I can see why she never wants to leave the house with you around”).
